Musical Intelligence

Do you play an instrument? Do you enjoy listening to music or even compose? Are you good at recognizing similar or the same rhythms, patterns and pitches in music? Do you like studying with music in the background? Can you memorize new concepts faster when you turn them into lyrics? If your answer is YES, you have demonstrated musical intelligence.

Generally speaking, people with this type of intelligence usually:

·Have good rhythm

·Can easily memorize songs

·Notice and enjoy different sounds

·Often singing, whistling or tapping a song

·Talented with an instrument or singing

·Can tell when a note is off-key

·Often have a song running through their head

·Have an unquenchable passion for music

The perfect careers for these people are:

·Musician

·Singer

·Conductor

·Composer

·Songwriter

·Music Teacher

·Music Director

·Choir Director

·Record Producer

Along with famous composers and musicians, guess who else had this type of intelligence? Read this quote and try to guess, but don’t cheat! You can check the answer at the end of the quote: "As a young person I was a serious pianist and enthusiastically involved with other arts as well. When I began to study developmental and cognitive psychology, I was struck by the virtual absence of any mention of the arts. An early professional goal was to find a place for the arts within academic psychology. I am still trying! In 1967 my continuing interest in the arts prompted me to become a founding member of Project Zero, a basic research group at the Harvard Graduate School of Education begun by a noted philosopher of art, Nelson Goodman. For 28 years, I was the co-director of Project Zero and I am happy to say that the organization continues to thrive."
